Sri Humananda
Advaita Vedanta Tantra Yogi
"Self-enquiry is not the mind's inspection of its own contents; it is tracing the mind's first mode, the 'I'-thought to its source which is the Self. When there is proper and persistent enquiry, the 'I'-thought also ceases and there is the wordless illumination of the form 'I'-'I' which is the pure consciousness. This is release, freedom from bondage."
(Sri Ramana Maharshi)
What Yoga orientation is right for You? - August 26, 2006
You are invited to an exploration of the Various Yoga Paths.
On this day we will look at the various Yoga orientations briefly so that you can get an idea of the one you may have an interest in. Afterwards, you should have a better idea of the Yoga more suited to your own personality type.
We will explore meditation and do a short 15 minute generic meditation containing some of the basic principles that most meditations require, and which will utilize elements from the various Yoga orientations discussed. This will give you a better idea of what meditation is generally and how you can go about meditating by yourself.
We will examine the philosophy of the Primal Sound of AUM a little deeper and also practice the sound.
The intent of this day's exposition and practice is that you should discover for yourself what particular Yoga Path suits you (and which ones do not) and discover over time what its effects on you are. You should also be able to practice the basic meditations of most Yoga orientations by yourself, since you will generally understand the generic prerequisites of meditation practice.
We will take a look at principles of diet from a Yogic point of view, and what Yoga has to say about food and diet and our Internal state as it relates to nourishment.
Namaste.
